Bell Sets ValleyCats Record in Road Win
QUEBEC CITY, Quebec, Canada - Brantley Bell became the Tri-City ValleyCats single-season hits leader in tonight's 9-3 win at the Quebec Captiales.
The second baseman, currently atop the Frontier League in batting average and on a 22-game hitting streak, went 3-for-5 with a home run and three RBI in the road win. He now has 110 hits on the season, taking over the top spot in team records from Juan Silverio, who had 107 in 2021.
Trailing the Capitales, 2-1 in the fifth, Bell and first baseman Brad Zunica hit home runs as part of a three-run rally to put Tri-City ahead for good.
Up 5-3 going to the ninth, the 'Cats tacked on four insurance runs to ensure the road triumph.
Zunica finished 2-for-4 with two home runs, three RBI, and two runs scored, while designated hitter Denis Phipps added to his league-leading home run and RBI totals, going 2-for-5 with a homer and two runs scored.
ValleyCats pitching only allowed four hits to the East Division leaders in the win. Southpaw Ryan Williamson took the hill for the 'Cats, and would battle for five innings, allowing three runs, two earned, on four hits, before turning it over to the bullpen. Relievers Neil Abbatiello, Adam Hofacket, and Trey Cochran-Gill would not surrender a hit or run. The only two base runners that would reach against the Tri-City bullpen would do so on the free pass, with one walk by Abbatiello and Cochran-Gill respectively.
Tonight's victory sets up a rubber match in the three-game series tomorrow night at Stade Canac. First pitch is slated for 7:05 pm.
The 'Cats return home to "The Joe" on Friday night. It's Wizard Night and Community Heroes Night. Purchase your tickets by calling (518) 629-2287, going online, or stopping by the box office.
