Titans Edge ValleyCats 6-5
OTTAWA, Ontario, Canada - Leftfielder Kai Moody laced an RBI single in the bottom of the eighth to put the Ottawa Titans past the visiting Tri-City ValleyCats 6-5 on Wednesday night.
The ValleyCats (49-36), sitting in a tie for second place in the East Division and battling for a playoff berth, utilized the homer to account for all of their runs. Second baseman Brantley Bell cleared the fence in the first to plate a pair, while rightfielder Carson McCusker hit a three-run blast in the third. Bell, the Frontier League leader in batting average, went 2-for-5 with a run scored and two RBI, while McCusker finished 2-for-3 with three RBI and a run scored.
First baseman Jason Diochea totaled three RBI, while designated hitter Brendon Dadson and rightfielder Jacob Sanford had two hits apiece to lead the Titans (48-38).
The teams wrap up their series tomorrow at 6:30 pm.
Tri-City, in the midst of a ten-game road trip, its longest of the summer, returns home on Tuesday, August 30 to host the Sussex County Miners. The 6:30 pm contest will begin a six-game homestand that closes the regular season.
