'Cats Offense Breaks Out Early in Home Win
TROY, NY - The Tri-City ValleyCats got out to an 8-0 lead after two innings in tonight's 13-5 victory vs. the New Jersey Jackals at Joseph L. Bruno Stadium.
After 'Cats leadoff hitter Cito Culver worked a walk to start the home half of the first, 'Cats second baseman Brantley Bell would launch a fastball from Jackals left-hander Zack Miednik over the left center field wall. With two away, right fielder Carson McCusker went opposite field on a Miednik breaking ball over the visitors bullpen, plating the third and fourth runs of the inning.
After sending nine batters to the plate in the first inning, Culver started the second with his second walk in as many innings, with Bell following his middle infield counterpart with a base on balls. Third baseman Pavin Parks score the pair with a double, adding to the Tri-City lead. First baseman Brad Zunica made it 8-0 with a two-run blast.
Right hander Kyle Arjona, making his Tri-City debut, made the early support standup. He allowed just three runs across five innings to earn the win. A quartet of relievers finished off the victory.
Bell, among the Frontier League leaders in batting average, went 5-for-5 with four RBI and three runs scored, while Zunica and Parks each knocked in three runs.
The teams wrap up their weekend series on tomorrow evening for Sunday FunDay presented by HighMark Blue Shield of NorthEastern New York. There is a youth jersey giveaway for the kids while supplies last.
