Late Homer Sinks 'Cats at Quebec

QUEBEC CITY, Quebec, Canada - Catcher Jeffry Parra hit a two-run homer in the bottom of the eighth to put the Quebec Capitales past the visiting Tri-City ValleyCats by a score of 3-1 on Tuesday night.

The late home run spoiled a strong outing by ValleyCats starting pitcher Joey Gonzalez. The right-hander allowed just one run, via a wild pitch, on three hits and fanned five across seven innings of work. He now has 106 strikeouts on the season, just one off the league lead.

Second baseman Brantley Bell, who entered the game atop the Frontier League in batting, accounted for the 'Cats run with a solo home run off of Quebec starter Miguel Cienfuegos. The third inning blast extended his hitting streak to 21 games.

Bell and shortstop Cito Culver each registered a pair of hits in the setback.

The ValleyCats, which crossed the border as winners of seven of their previous nine games, look to return to the win column tomorrow at Quebec. The action from Stade Canac is set to begin at 7:05 pm.

Following the three-game set vs. the Captiales, Tri-City returns to the Joe on Friday night. It's Wizard Night and Community Heroes Night. Purchase your tickets by calling (518) 629-2287, going online, or stopping by the box office.
