Comeback Attempt Falls Short in Evansville

EVANSVILLE, IN - The Tri-City ValleyCats entered Saturday's matchup with the Evansville Otters looking for their third consecutive series victory following the Frontier League's All-Star break.

The tables turned from last night's Tri-City victory that saw the 'Cats strike early and often. Instead, Evansville jumped out to the early lead with a four-run first inning, and tacked on an insurance run in the second.

The 'Cats would attempt to claw their way back in the third, with two runs scoring on singles by Cito Culver and Brantley Bell. However the Otters' original lead would never be caught up to. Trailing 8-2 in the seventh, Denis Phipps, who leads the Frontier League in home runs and RBI, left the yard for a grand slam, cutting the ValleyCats deficit to two.

The Otters would tally two more runs and hold Tri-City scoreless for the remainder of the game to secure a 10-6 victory.

The teams finish their weekend set tomorrow at Bosse Field in the rubber match. The contest, slated to begin at 6:05PM Eastern, 5:05PM Central, wraps up a six-game road trip for the ValleyCats.

Tri-City returns home next week for a homestand featuring visits from the Ottawa Titans and the New Jersey Jackals. Get your tickets today by calling (518) 629-2287, going online, or stopping by the box office.
