Three-Run Ninth Propels 'Cats

SCHAUMBURG, IL - After last night's loss to the Schaumburg Boomers, their second straight, the ValleyCats entered Saturday looking to get back on the right track in a weekend matinee game, and get back in the win column. A win in Saturday's matchup would give Tri-City the opportunity for a series win in a rubber match on Sunday before heading back home for a six-game homestand.

After falling into a 3-run deficit, the Tri-City pitching staff, composed of starter Joey Gonzalez, along with relievers Adam Hofacket, Brac Warren (2-0) and Trey Cochran-Gill settled into a groove, holding the Boomers scoreless after the fourth inning.

Brantley Bell got the Tri-City scoring started in the sixth with an RBI single, driving in Jesus Lujano, and cutting the deficit to two. The deficit would hold until the ValleyCats came up to the plate in the top of the ninth.

Denis Phipps led off the ninth with a walk, setting the stage for Juan Silverio. Down by 2 runs, the veteran third baseman sent a baseball over the outfield fence for a game-tying 2-run home run. With two outs, Juan Santana stepped into the batter's box and homered for the second straight night, putting the 'Cats ahead by 1.

Trey Cochran-Gill entered in the bottom of the ninth and worked a 1-2-3 inning for his third save of the season, securing the win for Tri-City.
