Los Puentes Upend Greys 4-2

TROY, NY - Los Puentes de Tri-City defeated the visiting Empire State Greys 4-2 on Saturday night at Joseph L. Bruno Stadium.

Los Puentes got on the board with two runs in the third. With one out, second baseman Brantley Bell, the Frontier League MVP, doubled home leftfielder Joey Campagna.  Third baseman Pavin Parks followed with a sacrifice fly to right.

After Empire State tied it in the sixth via a two-run homer by second baseman Robbie Carling, Tri-City responded with two runs in the bottom half of the frame. Designated hitter Denis Phipps, who leads the league in home runs, and centerfielder Jesus Lujano laced RBI singles to put Los Puentes on top for good.

From there, Tri-City pitching only allowed one hit and struck out six Greys.

Rightfielder Carson McCusker finished 2-for-4 with a run scored, while starting pitcher Austin Faith allowed two runs on three hits across six innings to earn the win. The right-hander whiffed six Empire State batters during his outing.

The teams close the regular season tomorrow at 5:00 pm. It will be "Fans for Life Night", celebrating 20 years of the best fans in professional baseball, and "Sunday Funday", presented by HighMark Blue Shield of NorthEastern New York, at "The Joe". Gates open at 3:30 pm for catch on the field and the NY 529 College Savings Program's summer reading with the players taking place before the contest. Fireworks, presented by Price Chopper/Market 32, and Kids Run the Bases are scheduled to follow the regular season finale.
