'Cats Conclude Campaign with a Sweep

TROY, NY - The Tri-City ValleyCats wrapped up their 2022 season by defeating the visiting Empire State Greys 10-5 on Sunday at Joseph L. Bruno Stadium.

The 'Cats (54-41), which scored 10 of the final 11 runs of today's contest, broke things open with a seven-run fifth inning.  Shortstop Pavin Parks highlighted the game-turning rally with a three-run homer.

Centerfielder Mitch Piatnik went 2-for-4 with a home run, double, two runs scored and three RBI to help Tri-City sweep the visiting Greys.

Catcher/pitcher Manny Garcia and centerfielder Jordan Garr paced Empire State in defeat. Garcia, who played all nine positions tonight, went 3-for-4 with a homer, double, two RBI and two runs scored, while Garr was 2-for-4 with a home run and three RBI.

Though falling short of the playoffs, the 'Cats earned some individual hardware in 2022. Infielder Brantley Bell was named the Frontier League MVP. He won the batting title with a .368 average, to go along with 81 RBI, 24 home runs, and 32 stolen bases. Denis Phipps was selected the Frontier League Designated Hitter of the Year. The former Cincinnati Red topped the circuit with 33 home runs and tied for second in the league with 91 RBI.
