Albert Leads the Charge in Series Sweep
TROIS-RIVIÈRES, CANADA - The Tri-City ValleyCats (35-26) swept the Trois-Rivières Aigles (23-40) and won 4-2 on Thursday at Stade Quillorama.
Tri-City opened the scoring for the fourth consecutive game. Ian Walters doubled off Bronson Chapple in the second frame and Cedric Rose walked. Josh Leslie delivered a two-run double to pull the ValleyCats ahead, 2-0.
Julian Boyd homered in the third inning to provide Tri-City with a 3-0 advantage. It was the first big fly for Boyd this season.
The ValleyCats added in the sixth. Demias Jimerson singled, stole second, moved to third on a wild pitch, and came around on a RBI sac bunt from Walters, which put the ‘Cats on top, 4-0.
Trois-Rivières struck in the seventh. Wes Albert walked John Montes before Omar Meregildo greeted Nate Nabholz with a two-run jack to cut the deficit to 4-2.
Liu Fuenmayor collected his sixth save of the year with a perfect ninth, striking out two and extending his scoreless streak to 12.1 innings.
Albert (1-1) earned the win. He turned in the best start of his ValleyCats career. The New Rochelle native dominated over 6.2 innings, yielding one run on one hit, walking two, and striking out one.
Chapple (1-2) received his second straight loss against the ‘Cats. He threw seven frames, surrendering four runs on seven hits, walking two, and striking out five.
Tri-City starts a six-game homestand at Joseph L. Bruno Stadium tomorrow, Friday, July 25th, beginning with a three-game set against the Québec Capitales. First pitch is scheduled for a 6:30 PM start.
