ValleyCats Fall to Sussex County in Another Long One

The Tri-City ValleyCats (7-14) lost to the Sussex County Miners, 17-9, in a 3-hour, 20-minute marathon - the second-longest game of the 2026 season time-wise - in front of 3,586 on June 3's Education Day presented by Transfinder.

The ValleyCats played a 3:43 game late last week at Mississippi.

Dylan Broderick had a pair of solo home runs for the ValleyCats as he scored three times and walked once. Parker Coddou was 1-for-2 with three RBI, including a 2-RBI double in the bottom of the eighth, plus he walked twice, stole two bases, and scored twice.

Ranko Stevanovic had a two-run single in the bottom of the third for Tri-City, and Amani Larry (2-for-3, 2 RBI, BB, Sb) had a sac fly in the bottom of the first.

Sussex County (7-14) finished with four home runs. Will Zimmerman, who homered in the top of the third, set the pace with a 4-for-4 day as he scored three, drove in two, and walked once. Haiden Walters was 3-for-5 with a home run of his own, 4 runs scored, and four RBI.

Sussex County starter Billy Parsons went 5.2 innings and gave up seven hits, walked four, struck out four, and gave up six earned runs.

Austin Dill went five innings in the start for the ValleyCats and struck out four as he gave up nine hits and eight runs. Adam Maher made his season and professional debut for Tri-City with two strikeouts in 2.1 innings of relief. Logan Jones finished things off with two strikeouts and a walk over 1.2 innings.

The ValleyCats and Miners return for a second morning game tomorrow and the final Education Day game of the year, presented by Transfinder. First pitch is scheduled for 10 a.m.

Tri-City then hosts Ottawa for a three-game series starting on Friday's Youth Baseball Night, which is the first Los Puentes de Tri-City game of the season.
