ValleyCats Fall in Heartbreak Despite Strong Albert Start
The Tri-City ValleyCats dropped a heartbreaker to the Ottawa Titans, 7-6, in extra innings in front of the largest home crowd of the season - 4,003 - on Youth Baseball Night on Friday, June 5.
Tri-City (7-16) held a three-run lead going into the ninth before an AJ Wright single in the ninth capped a late rally to bring things even. The Titans (13-11) took the lead on a wild pitch in the tenth.
Wes Albert went six innings for the ValleyCats in the start and gave up just three hits and a single run as he walked two and struck out four on 99 pitches.
Ottawa's Kaleb Hill held the ValleyCats hitless for three innings and only allowed two hits and one run as he walked three and struck out four. Five Ottawa relievers came on to piece together the other five innings.
After a David Glancy RBI-single in the bottom of the fifth, the ValleyCats put together three runs in an odd bottom of the sixth.
Amani Larry started things off as he scored on a Titans throwing error. Then, after Ottawa reliever Yohanse Morel balked in a run and Ottawa Manager Bobby Brown was ejected, Cooper Hext chopped an infield single that barely cleared Morel's glove to score Jake Reinisch.
Larry doubled in Dylan Broderick in the bottom of the seventh, and Broderick knocked in Mike Campagna with a sac fly to account for the ValleyCats' runs.
Tri-City struck out 12 times and walked nine times on the evening.
The teams return for game two of the series tomorrow night at The Joe on Triple Crown Night presented by CapitalOTB.
