ValleyCats Score Early, Top Ottawa, 7-5

The Tri-City ValleyCats rolled out to a four-run lead in the bottom of the first and came through with a 7-5 win over the Ottawa Titans on getaway Sunday, June 7, in front of 2,052 fans.

The ValleyCats batted around in the bottom of the first as Dylan Broderick (2-for-4) extended his team-high 14-game hit streak with a lead-off double and scored on an Amani Larry single. David Glancy added a sac fly in the opening rally.

Broderick has scored in seven of the last eight for the ValleyCats and driven in at least one run in eight-straight games.

Catcher Mike Campagna was 2-for-4 with two RBI for Tri-City.

Only days after being featured as the No. 2 play in the SportsCenter Top-10 on June 5, Aaron Whitley made a sellout diving catch in the left center gap that started an 8-6-3 double play for Tri-City to close out the Ottawa third.

Aidan Kelly went four innings in the start, giving up three hits and three runs (two earned) with four walks and a strikeout. Mason Martinez came on for three innings of two-hit, one-run relief as he struck out four. Nate Nabholz had a scoreless eighth with a strikeout and Arlo Marynczak finished the game off for Tri-City.

Eric Pardinho struck out seven in the loss as he went five for Ottawa. Kaiden Cardoso was 2-for-4 for the visitors who host Brockton on Tuesday.

Sunday's game was extended due to inclement weather early, which required some field maintenance and a scary moment in the top of the fourth when Michael Furman was hit with a pitch that ricocheted off the brim of his helmet and hit him in the face. He was taken to the hospital.

The ValleyCats have a day off on Monday before traveling to take on the Trois-Rivières Aigles for a three-game series midweek. Tri-City returns to The Joe on Friday to play the New York Boulders on Rock n' Roll Night at the Joe. First pitch for that one is 6:30 p.m.
