ValleyCats' Five-run Fifth Powers Them Past Aigles, 10-6
The Tri-City ValleyCats, averaging 6.28 runs per game coming into the night, put together a five-run outburst in the top of the fifth and rode that to a 10-6 win at Trois-Rivieres on June 9.
Dylan Broderick pushed his hit streak up to 15 games with a stand-up double that kicked off the big rally for the ValleyCats (9-17). Broderick came in on a bases loaded walk drawn by Kai Moody before Cooper Hext ripped a two-run double down the left field line. Ranko Stevanovich dropped in a two-run single over a drawn in infield to put the 'Cats up 8-4.
Gino Sabatine, the ValleyCats leader in innings pitched so far this season, got the win as he went six full innings in the start for Tri-City and scattered 11 hits, struck out one, and picked off two runners.
Adam Maher, who also picked off a runner, and Quinn Hocom both came on in relief before Nate Nabholz slammed the door on a bases-loaded jam by striking out Sam Franco. Nabholz added two more strikeouts in the bottom of the ninth to close it out.
Moody picked up the 'Cats league-leading 12th triple of the season in the bottom of the second when multiple Aigles converged on his shallow pop-up that fell in and left both second and third unoccupied. After a Hext walk and stolen base, Parker Coddou hit his third home run of the season to score all three.
Lizandro Rodriguez was 4-for-4 with all singles and a walk for Trois-Rivieres (7-19).
The teams return for the middle game of the three-game series tomorrow with first pitche scheduled for 6:55 p.m.
