ValleyCats drop season opening series finale at New Jersey, 10-6

The Tri-City ValleyCats fell to 1-2 on the young 2026 season after a 10-6 loss at New Jersey on Sunday, May 10.

Aaron Whitley went 3-for-4 with two RBI and two stolen bases for the ValleyCats in the loss.

Tri-City travels to Sussex County for the first of a three-game series on Tuesday before opening up Joseph L. Bruno Stadium on May 15 against defending Frontier League Champion Quebec.

Kai Moody hit his first home run of the season for Tri-City on Sunday with a solo shot in the top of the third.

But Felix Stevens hit a two-run homer in the bottom of the sixth for New Jersey and the Jackals put together an three-run rally in the bottom of the fifth with an RBI double for Dante Stewart, an RBI single by Luis Encarncion, and an RBI single by  Jedier Hernandez. Hernandez hit a three-run homer for the Jackals in the bottom of the second. Christian Hall followed that with a two-run double in the bottom of the third.

Tri-City Starting Pitcher Brayhans Barreto went four innings and gave up five run while walking two and striking out three. Luis Misla and Michael Riley both made their season debuts for Tri-City in relief and went a combined four innings striking out two.

Mike Campagna drove in RJ Stinson with a single in the top of the second and Whitley drove in two with a single, as Campagna and Parker Coddou came around to score. Dylan Broderick doubled to lead off the game and scored on an Ian Walters single in the top of the first.
