ValleyCats Fall at Sussex County, 12-6
The Tri-City ValleyCats lost the second of a three-game series at Sussex County, 12-6, on Wednesday, May 13, despite back-to-back home runs by Parker Coddou and Brayden Jobert in the top of the third.
Jobert also tripled for the second time in as many days, as he finished 3-for-4 with 2 RBI, a run scored, and a stolen base. Coddou went 3-for-4 with two RBI from the homer. Aaron Whitley went 2-for-4 with a double for the ValleyCats.
The home runs tied things at 3-3, but a six-run bottom of the sixth, punctuated by a Will Zimmerman grand slam, put the Miners in the lead for good.
Tri-City starter Gino Sabatine set down nine Miners in a row for a stretch from the second to the fourth inning and finished with 5.1 innings, five hits, two walks, and four strikeouts.
Tri-City, now 2-3, finishes up the season-opening road trip at Sussex County tomorrow with an 11:05 scheduled first pitch. Stephen Still is projected to start for the ValleyCats.
Tri-City opens up Joseph L. Bruno Stadium on Friday, with a 6:30 scheduled start, against defending Frontier League Champion Quebec.
