Tri-City Falls in Series Finale, Dill Starts Strong
The Tri-City ValleyCats (3-9) dropped the series finale to the visiting Trois-Rivières Aigles, 4-2, on the second Education Day of the 2026 season presented by Transfinder on May 21.
Austin Dill had the longest start by a ValleyCat this season as he powered through seven innings, giving up six hits (two solo homers), while striking out three and walking none. Dill (0-3, 4.09 ERA) took the hard-luck loss after he threw 91 pitches with 60 strikes in front of 3,874 fans.
Luis Misla had two innings of 3-hit, 2-run relief, striking out three and walking three.
The ValleyCats scored on a Dylan Broderick groundout in the bottom of the second and a Jake Reinisch single in the bottom of the eighth, but were held to three total hits on the afternoon. Tri-City hitters struck out 14 times.
Anthony Escobar (2-0, 1.80 ERA) went five innings and struck out 10 for the Aigles (5-7) as he walked three and gave up two hits. Landon Leach threw a scoreless ninth for his fourth save of the season. Eduardo Villegas (2-for-5, 2 R) hit a go-ahead solo homer off of Dill in the top of the fourth. Trois-Rivières travels to New York tomorrow.
Tri-City hosts Brockton for the first of a three-game set tomorrow on E-Sports, STEM, and Drone Show Night presented by Paint Care. First pitch is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. The game is also the first Youth Baseball Night of the season, and the ValleyCats will be in their alternate Collar City Cats gear for the first time in 2026.
