ValleyCats Split Doubleheader, Series with Mississippi
The Tri-City ValleyCats (6-13) split both a doubleheader and series with the Mississippi Mud Monsters (9-13) after a 15-5 loss in the nightcap of a twin bill on May 30.
The Mud Monsters broke things open with a seven-run rally in the bottom of the second as Kasten Furr and Travis Holt both had two run singles. Mississippi tacked on two more in the bottom of the third.
Aaron Whitley and David Glancy had back-to-back doubles and then RJ Stinson followed with a single in a three-run fifth for Tri-City.
Cooper Hext had a late RBI triple for Tri-City pushing their league lead to 10 three-baggers. Dylan Broderick was 2-for-3 with an RBI in the nightcap.
The ValleyCats took the opener, 6-3, with RBI from Broderick, Parker Coddou, and Amani Larry in a three-run rally in the top of the third. Broderick (3-for-4, 3 RBI, 2 R, 2B - Game 1) followed that up with a two-run single in the top of the fourth. Coddou stayed hot with a 3-for-4 opener with 2 RBI. Kai Moody was 2-for-4.
ValleyCats pitching gave up just four hits in the first game as Aidan Kelly allowed a run on a hit in two innings of work to start. Wes Albert went for 2.1 innings before Logan Jones had a 0.2 scoreless appearance. Arlo Marynczak closed it out with two innings of scoreless relief as he walked one and struck out one. Tri-City turned three double plays.
Tri-City returns to The Joe on Tuesday for Workforce Development Night on Tuesday, June 2, presented by Ferguson, Paylocity, and Human Interest. The event is also supported by the Capital Region Workforce Development Board.
